Abercrombie Building

Design for Change.

Bonham & Douglas was hired to adapt an unused former liquor warehouse into offices using National Trust Historic Preservation Tax Credits. The design emphasizes the preservation and enhancement of the original timber frame and brickwork within the interior spaces, showcasing their historical significance to create a unique loft-like space.

Design for Resources.

To maintain the authentic character of the original structure, soundproof walls and ceilings were seamlessly integrated into the building with minimal disruption. Given that the warehouse originally had fewer windows than required for office environments, Bonham & Douglas preserved the existing window patterns and styles while strategically adding new windows. This approach enhanced natural daylight and offered improved views for the building’s occupants.

Design for Economy.

The warehouse building backed up on the tracks just down the hill from Main Street and once defined the industrial edge of town. Over time the spreading downtown came to encompass the property, creating an ideal place for a new office space.
