Blending aesthetics with function.
The owners sought to reimagine the oddly proportioned open floorplan of this 1980s postmodern home to better accommodate their lifestyle. TDA responded to the client’s specific programming needs, while blending the existing aesthetics with function and durability, to produce a harmonious and practical modern space.
Modern, with natural materials.
Bathed in natural light from three sides, the redesigned kitchen balances sleek modern appliances with natural materials. New woodgrain cabinets and live-edge shelving augment the existing warm-toned maple flooring found throughout the home, while an integrated slate sink, new slate floor and natural wall tiles further enhance the warmth and character of the space.
Functional minimalism.
Designed to have a minimal footprint and maximize living space, the new staircase is a focal architectural element in the open living and dining area. Again, the warmth of maple wood in the stringers and treads is balanced by the functional minimalism of black steel balusters and tread supports, which combine to evoke a spacious and floating feel on the compact, winding stair.
