Sweeney Auditorium

Design for Integration

Sweeney Auditorium, a historic gem within Sage Hall was built in 1924 with a seating capacity of approximately 620. Bonham & Douglas designed the renovation of this esteemed Smith College auditorium and music hall, transforming it into a stunning venue where people can come together to explore their diverse interests. The renovation has not only revitalized the space but also expanded its versatility, enabling it to host a range of events, from concerts and graduations to community gatherings, serving both the Smith College and Northampton communities.

Materiality Refresh

To enhance the aesthetic and functionality of the theater, we introduced a selection of contemporary fabrics to the seating, ensuring comfort and visual appeal. The carpet was updated to a modern design that complements the overall ambiance of the space, while a fresh coat of paint revitalizes the walls and contributes to a cohesive and inviting atmosphere.
